Break-in suspect released on ankle monitor
Bail hearing held for John Brady Bowes, 30, of Fredericton, who’s accused of breaking into Woodstock Road residence, possessing break-in instruments
A Fredericton man arrested in a significant police operation Monday night has been granted release on conditions - including a requirement to wear an ankle monitoring bracelet.
John Brady Bowes, 30, of Brunswick Street, appeared in Fredericton provincial court Thursday for a bail hearing.
He faces June 9 charges of break, enter and theft at a Woodstock Road home, masking his face at the time and possession of break-in instruments (bolt cutters).
Furthermore, Bowes faces earlier, unrelated counts of possessing a break-in instrument (a pry bar) and possessing methamphetamine on Jan. 24, possessing meth again May 11 and failing to attend court in Fredericton May 17.
At the conclusion of Thursday’s hearing, Judge Natalie LeBlanc ruled Bowes could be released on strict conditions.
Among them was a requirement to wear an ankle bracelet to monitor his location digitally.
The judge also ordered him to return to court July 6 to elect mode of trial and enter pleas.
Bowes was arrested Monday night at a residence near the roundabout at the bottom of Smythe Street connecting to Brunswick Street and Woodstock Road.
Numerous Fredericton police officers - including members of the emergency response team in full tactical gear - responded to the scene, and they shut down the area for a time Monday night.
The Fredericton Police Force noted officers received information that a suspect wanted in a break-in case was to be found in that area.
A police spokesperson also reported the Bowes matter could be linked to a similar case the RCMP is investigating in its jurisdiction.
