Bear scolded for hibernating on charges

Court hears that Anthony James Bear, 34, of Fredericton, just filled out legal-aid application seeking representation on home-invasion, firearms charges dating back to 2022 and 2023

A Fredericton man who’s had pending charges before the courts for incidents dating back to 2022 and 2023 has only completed an application for legal aid, a court heard Wednesday.

Anthony James Bear, 34, of Gibson Street, was back in Fredericton provincial court Wednesday, scheduled to elect mode of trial and enter pleas to several dated charges.

He’s accused of breaking into a Woodstock Road home Feb. 24, 2022.

Bear is also charged with possessing a non-restricted firearm (a 22-calibre rifle) without a licence and possessing it with the knowledge he didn’t have a licence, both on June 22, 2023.
