ASD-W K-8 schools to close early Thursday
School district announces students will be dismissed two hours early June 20 due to heat
Students from kindergarten to Grade 8 in Anglophone School District West schools will be cut loose a couple of hours early Thursday due extreme heat in the educational facilities.
The district sent emails to parents and guardians of students Wednesday afternoon announcing the early closure for the next day.
“On Thursday, June 20, ASD-W will have an early dismissal for our grades K-8 students that are still attending school,” district communications director Paul MacIntosh wrote.
“Students will be dismissed two hours earlier than their regular afternoon dismissal time on any other Thursday.”
That means, for example, if a student’s bus normally leaves school at 3:10 p.m., it’ll be departing at 1:10 p.m. Thursday instead.
“This change in schedule is in response to the significant heat that we are experiencing during this current stretch of days,” MacIntosh wrote.
“Knowing that the conditions cool down in the evening, all graduations, proms, finishing ceremonies and dances, and graduation activities are permitted to continue as scheduled.”
Francophone South School District, which operates francophone schools in the capital region and other parts of the province, has yet to make a similar announcement.

Was there not extreme heat these past two days? Are the teachers permitted to leave as well?
