A Fredericton man clashed with the judge repeatedly during his bail hearing on an arson charge Monday, and the court muted him when he would go on belligerent, curse-laden tirades.

Joshua Daniel Grant Burden, 49, of no fixed address, was charged last week with arson and breach of probation stemming from a Tuesday night fire that devastated MacTavish’s Source for Sports, a decades-old family business on Queen Street.

He appeared in Fredericton provincial court by video conference from the Saint John Regional Correctional Centre on Monday for a bail hearing.

It marked his second bail hearing in a week, as he was released following one on Oct. 28 - the day before the fire - on charges of uttering threats and breaching probation.
