Areas of province under thunderstorm watch
Environment and Climate Change Canada issues severe weather alert for parts of N.B.
The federal weather service is reporting that “dangerous thunderstorms” could occur in central and southern areas of New Brunswick, as conditions are ripe for such weather events.
Environment and Climate Change Canada issued severe thunderstorm watches early Tuesday afternoon for several parts of the province, including Fredericton and surrounding communities.

“Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain,” the alert stated.
“Utility outages are possible.”
The areas included in the severe thunderstorm watch are Fredericton and southern York County, Fundy National Park, Grand Lake and Queens County, Kent County, Kouchibouguac National Park, Miramichi and area, Moncton and southeast New Brunswick, Oromocto and Sunbury County, the Stanley/Doaktown/Blackville area, Sussex, the Kennebecasis Valley and Kings County.
The advisory warned that people should retreat to indoor spaces when they heard thunder, as it’s typically accompanied by lightning.
“Strong wind gusts can damage trees, buildings and overturn vehicles,” the weather service stated.
