Abuser gets extra year for bribery
Winton Labelle Walter Saulis, 36, of Bilijk First Nation, serving seven-year sentence already
A former Bilijk (Kingsclear) First Nation man serving a seven-year prison term for brutal violence visited on a former intimate partner saw an extra year tacked on that sentence Friday.
Winton Labelle Walter Saulis, 36, of no fixed address, appeared in Fredericton provincial court by video from the Springhill Institution in Nova Scotia on Friday for a sentencing hearing.

He’d previously admitted attempting to pervert or defeat the course of justice by bribing Chanel Sabattis between Nov. 27 and 29, 2023.
Court heard he’d done so in an effort to keep her from testifying against him in a trial on charges of assaulting her with a knife, unlawfully entering her home, unlawfully confining her and threatening to harm her father, all in Sabattis’ Bilijk First Nation home Dec. 18, 2021.
