6½ years in prison for Snapchat predator

Judge says sentence imposed on Firas Alobaid, 22, of Fredericton, for sexual offences against teenage girls in 2021 and 2022 needs to deter others considering similar crimes

A Fredericton man who targeted teenage girls to bribe or extort them for sexual favours using Snapchat was sentenced Friday to 6½ years in prison.

Firas Alobaid, 22, of Needham Street, was back before Court of King’s Bench Justice Thomas Christie at the Burton Courthouse on Friday to hear the judge’s decision on sentence for sexual offences against minors.
