Personnel with the provincial Department of Natural Resources and Energy Development and primed and prepared for another wildfire season this year, but they’re looking for help - from all New Brunswickers.

The department held a briefing at the fire centre garages of the Hugh John Flemming Foresty Centre in Fredericton on Tuesday afternoon to spotlight the increasing risk of wildfires in New Brunswick in 2024 and the years ahead.

Natural Resources Minister Mike Holland said spring weather tends to lift people’s spirits, understandably, but the pleasant weather brings risk as well.

“It gets brighter out. It gets warmer out. It gets drier out,” he said.

He said the department is expecting a similar situation for wildfires in the province in 2024 as it saw in 2023.
