Youth remanded on break-in charges - RCMP
17-year-old arrested Thursday after reports of break and enters, arson in Oromocto
A teenager is in custody following an investigation into a series of break-ins in Oromocto and a subsequent report of arson, reports the RCMP.
In a news release issued Saturday, the Oromocto detachment of the RCMP said it received reports Thursday of several break-ins at businesses in the town overnight, and officers were able to obtain a photo of the suspect in short order.
“Later that day, the Oromocto RCMP received a report of an arson in the community,” the release said.
“A witness provided a description of the suspect who matched the one from the series of break and enters.”
RCMP officers located a 17-year-old suspect shortly thereafter with the help of a police canine unit, it said.
That youth - whose gender wasn’t specified in the release - made a weekend remand court appearance Saturday, the RCMP said, and the teen was charged with three counts of break and enter, two counts of mischief causing damage to property valued at less than $5,000, possession of break-in instruments and attempted theft of a vehicle.
The Crown objected to the youth’s release, the RCMP reported, and a judge remanded the defendant pending a bail hearing scheduled for Tuesday.
