A Bilijk (Kingsclear) First Nation woman stands accused of interfering with police during a tense standoff in the indigenous community during which her family member allegedly opened fire on Mounties this spring.

Tammy Louise Sabattis, 51, of Tomahawk Street, made her initial appearance in Fredericton provincial court Wednesday to face two summary criminal charges.

She’s accused of obstructing five RCMP officers in the execution of their duties and of threatening Const. Tara Tremblay to cause her death and/or bodily harm, both at Bilijk First Nation on April 15.

The charges are connected with a dramatic scene in that community on the afternoon and evening in question when a major police presence was deployed to Tomahawk Street after a report of an assault escalated to a standoff during which shots were allegedly fired at police.
