Used-car fraud suspect still without counsel
Brent Hayward Stewart, 51, of Doaktown, has trial coming up in five months on 27 counts
Court heard Monday that a Doaktown man who’s set to stand trial in five months on more than two dozen fraud allegations still doesn’t have a lawyer a year and a half after he was initially charged.
Brent Hayward Stewart, 51, of Hazelton Road, appeared before Court of King’s Bench Justice Richard Petrie on Monday at the Burton Courthouse for his latest pre-trial conference.
The RCMP’s financial crimes unit charged him with 26 indictable counts of fraud plus one of theft.
The charges allege he fleeced customers during his time as a used-car salesman at DMR Auto Sales in Pepper Creek on Fredericton’s north side and that he stole money from his employer as well, all between 2020 and 2021.
