Time served for two assaults on woman
Judge reluctant to accept joint recommendation on sentence for Robert Gordon Quondam, 53, of Fredericton, given criminal history and refusal to acknowledge his violent temper
A judge accepted an overly lenient sentencing recommendation for a Fredericton man who assaulted the same woman twice in the past two years, but noted it acknowledged problems with the Crown’s case.
Robert Gordon Quondam, 53, of Union Street, pleaded guilty earlier this year in Fredericton provincial court to two counts of summary assault, as well as a probation violation.
Court heard in January that the offender struck the victim - a woman whose identity is protected by a court-ordered publication ban - in the face after she denied him sex at a location in Chipman the night of June 10, 2022.
Quondam had been on probation at the time.
He assaulted the same woman again at his Union Street apartment in Fredericton on April 8, 2023 - and once again, his anger stemmed from the fact he wanted sex and wasn’t getting it.
Quondam was back before Judge Natalie LeBlanc on Friday for sentencing.
