Time served for treatment plant break-ins
Shawn Joseph Sullivan, 39, of Plaster Rock, homeless, mentally unwell at time of offences
A Plaster Rock man’s bizarre behaviour and break-ins at a water-treatment plant when he was homeless in Fredericton flowed from his mental-health issues, court heard Wednesday.
Shawn Joseph Sullivan, 39, of Brook Street in Plaster Rock, appeared in Fredericton provincial court in custody and in person Wednesday for a sentencing hearing.
He’d previously pleaded guilty to breaking into the City of Fredericton’s water-treatment plant on Smythe Street with intent to commit an offence on June 8 and 10, damaging an ankle-bracelet monitoring device June 10 and breaching the conditions of a release order on both dates.
Crown prosecutor Patricia Gillett said city police officers were dispatched to the William L. Barrett Water Treatment Plant at the foot of Smythe Street at about 2:45 a.m. after an alarm was activated at the facility.
