A Fredericton man took to social media to push back against another man who’d accused his son of assault, and his reference to his connection with bikers amounted to a threat, court heard Thursday.

Michael G. Burden, 75, of Barton Crescent, pleaded guilty in the spring to a count of uttering threats against Virgil Arbeau on Nov. 13, and he was back in Fredericton provincial court for his sentencing hearing Thursday.

Burden had originally been charged with an indictable count of threatening violence against a justice-system participant with intent to provoke a state of fear in an effort to impede the administration of justice. He’d denied that allegation earlier in the case, but opted to admit to the lesser, included offence of uttering threats.
