Tenants displaced after butane blaze
Butane-tank fire in apartment prompted Fredericton Fire Department response Saturday
Tenants of a Fredericton apartment building have been displaced in the short term following a fire in an apartment building in the capital over the weekend, the city fire department reports.
The Fredericton Fire Fighters’ Association, the union representing the capital’s firefighters, issued a news release through social media Monday morning about a response to a blaze Saturday.
“On Saturday, Fredericton Fire responded to a report of a butane tank on fire inside a residential unit of a three-storey apartment building,” it said.
“Engine 4 was first on scene and advanced hose lines to the fire room. Crews operated with 18 firefighters and an incident commander, working quickly and effectively to bring the situation under control.”
The fire was contained to the apartment unit in which it originated, the association said, and that minimized damage in the building.
“No injuries were reported,” the release said.
“The Red Cross is assisting all affected tenants with temporary housing, and it is expected that residents will be able to return to their homes within a matter of days.”
Fire department spokesperson Justin McGuigan said the call came in at 2:08 p.m. Saturday, and the incident occurred at a structure on Barton Crescent.

Solid response time from Engine 4. The fact that they contained it to just the origin unit probably saved alot of people's belongings and meant way less displacement. In apartment fires that containment work is huge for keepingeveryone else stable during an already stressful situation.
Likely at 46 Barton Crescent.
