Tactical unit responded to up-river standoff
RCMP reports mental-distress call led to man barricading himself inside home in Johnville
A police response Monday to a call about a man in mental distress led to a standoff and a major law-enforcement presence just north of Woodstock, as well as the subject being injured, the RCMP reports.
The Western Valley region detachment of the RCMP issued alerts through social media on Monday afternoon about a police operation in Johnville, about 50 kilometres north of Woodstock.

“Residents in the Johnville area, near Route 565, in between Johnville Road and Dooley Road, can expect an increased police presence as RCMP are in the area in connection with an ongoing police operation,” an advisory stated.
“Please avoid the area to allow police to do their work.”
It wasn’t until the following morning that the Mounties reported the operation had concluded.
The RCMP issued a news release Thursday morning about the incident.
“On Oct. 20, 2025, at approximately 12 p.m., members of the Western Valley region RCMP detachment received a call for a man in mental distress in Johnville,” it said.
“When police arrived on scene, the man refused to co-operate with police and barricaded himself inside a garage.”
What followed next was a major police response due to a reported threat of firearms being possibly involved, the release said, noting that the New Brunswick RCMP’s emergency response team (ERT), crisis negotiation team, West District crime reduction unit, a police-services dog and a drone were dispatched to the scene as well.
“After a lengthy time and many different tactics, ERT and PDS entered the residence and were able to safely remove the man from the garage,” the RCMP reported.
“The man suffered minor injuries and was transported to hospital.”
The release gave no indication if the man remains in hospital, what the nature of his injuries are and if he’s facing criminal charges.
