Stolen truck rammed police cruiser - RCMP
Mounties say Jeremy Matthew Booker, 37, of Hampton, charged after incident in Minto
A Hampton man was remanded into custody pending a bail hearing after an incident in Minto on Thursday during which a stolen truck was purposefully driven into a police cruiser, reports the RCMP.
The Minto detachment of the RCMP issued a news release Friday afternoon, advising of an incident the day before.
“On Nov. 14, 2024, at approximately 1 p.m., members of the Minto RCMP detachment were made aware of a stolen truck being driven in Minto,” it said.
Officers responded and located the truck backed into the driveway of a Slope Road home, the release said, and saw the driver standing near the front entrance of the residence.
“The first member on scene activated his emergency equipment and pulled into the driveway,” it said.
“The 37-year-old man proceeded to jump back in the truck, and pulled forward striking the police vehicle, before driving in reverse through the garage door causing extensive damage.”
A second police officer arrived on scene shortly thereafter, the release said, and arrested the suspect inside the garage. That second officer sustained minor injuries while effecting the arrest, it said.
As a result of those events, the RCMP said, Jeremy Matthew Booker, 37, of Hampton, appeared in Fredericton provincial court and was charged with assaulting a police officer with a weapon, dangerous driving, possessing stolen property, causing property damage in excess of $5,000 and driving while prohibited by a court order.
The Crown objected to Booker’s release, and he was remanded pending a bail hearing, scheduled for Nov. 28.
Normally, a bail hearing would be held sooner, but the RCMP news release noted that Booker was also arrested on a warrant for alleged violations of federal parole conditions.
