Starting the new year off with snow
Federal advisory issued for most of New Brunswick, warning of significant snowfall
While weather isn’t expected to interfere with New Year’s Eve festivities, those nursing hangovers New Year’s Day will be dismayed to learn they may have to toil away on snow removal.
Environment and Climate Change Canada’s weather service issued a special weather statement of most areas of New Brunswick late Wednesday morning, warning of an incoming weather system that’s expected to drop snow on the province - lots of snow.

“A developing low pressure system is expected to bring a period of significant snowfall across much of the province on New Year’s Day,” the advisory said, noting it was in effect for most of New Brunswick except northwest counties.
Fifteen to 30 centimetres of snow is forecast, and Fredericton and the surrounding communities are included in the advisory.
The federal weather service indicates that the snow is expected to start Thursday afternoon and continue until Friday morning.
“The exact track of the system is uncertain, but the heaviest snowfall is expected to occur Thursday evening which could make travel conditions difficult,” the weather statement said, noting that people should check transit, ferry or flight statuses in advance, given the potential for delays or disruptions.
