Standoff suspect accused of sexual assault

A Fredericton man arrested after police shut down a northside neighbourhood Friday was charged with sexual assault over the weekend but released on conditions Monday.
The Fredericton Police Force cordoned off Perry Court and Bunker Street in the Marysville area of the capital Friday afternoon for what it dubbed “a police operation,” and at one point, it advised area residents to shelter in place.
The situation ended after a suspect was arrested and officers withdrew from the area.
The police force told the Fredericton Independent on Tuesday that Friday’s events on the north side of the city arose due to an alleged standoff with a male suspect.
