Southern N.B. to get snow, freezing rain
Federal weather service warns of some messy precipitation headed to lower half of province
A weather system is inbound from the east of New Brunswick, and it’s expected to bring plenty of rain and hours of freezing rain to the southern swath of the province Wednesday.
Environment and Climate Change Canada’s weather service issued a special weather statement for southern New Brunswick early Tuesday morning, warning of some nasty weather headed this way beginning Wednesday morning.

“A combination of snow, freezing rain and rain is expected,” it stated, noting that 10 to 15 centimetres of snow is forecast, along with possibly four to six hours of freezing rain.
Ten to 20 millimetres of rain is also forecast for affected areas, which include Fredericton and the capital region.
The weather statement said the melange of inclement precipitation is expected to begin Wednesday morning and continue into Thursday morning.
“A low pressure system is expected to track across Nova Scotia, with forecast guidance giving a variety of wintry precipitation to southern New Brunswick,” the advisory said.
“Precipitation is expected to begin as snow across most areas, with totals varying based on elevation and proximity to the coast, before possibly transitioning to freezing rain or rain as temperatures rise.”
The federal weather service said the exact track of the system remains uncertain, and that’ll affect the amount and type of precipitation expected.
“Accumulations of snow and ice may create slippery and hazardous travel or walking conditions,” the alert said.
“Consider adjusting travel plans to avoid the most adverse conditions.”
