An Oromocto man who was denied legal aid on an indictable sexual-assault charge told a court he’s still trying to retain private counsel, but he denied the allegation Friday.

Keegan Garrick Smit, 23, of Oneida Street, is accused of sexually assaulting an adult in Fredericton on July 14, 2024.

There’s a court-ordered publication ban in effect protecting the complainant’s identity.

Smit was back in Fredericton provincial court Friday, scheduled to elect mode of trial and enter a plea.
