Search leads to child-porn charges - RCMP
November 2023 search of residence in Brewers Mill led to seizure of digital devices, Mounties report, and Dana Mitchell Chase, 48, now faces counts related to illicit material
A two-year investigation by a specialized unit of the New Brunswick RCMP has led child-pornography charges against a capital-region man, the Mounties said Monday.
The New Brunswick RCMP issued a news release Monday, announcing that Dana Mitchell Chase, 48, of Brewers Mill, about 40 kilometres west of Fredericton, is facing charges of possessing and accessing child pornography.
“The investigation, led by the New Brunswick RCMP's internet child exploitation (ICE) Unit, began in October 2022, following information received from the RCMP's National Child Exploitation Crime Centre,” the release said.
“On Nov. 30, 2023, members of the New Brunswick RCMP ICE unit, the Keswick detachment and the RCMP's digital forensic services, executed a search warrant at a residence in Brewers Mill, N.B.”
That led to a 48-year-old man’s arrest at the scene, it said, and police seizures of numerous electronic devices as part of the investigation.
The suspect was later released on conditions, the RCMP reported.
The police news release stated that on Nov. 29 - last Friday, a little more than a year after the original search of the Brewers Mill home - officers laid charges of possession and accessing child pornography against Chase in Fredericton provincial court.
He’s scheduled to make his first appearance on the charges Jan. 7.
The New Brunswick RCMP's ICE unit includes members from the Saint John Police Force and the Kennebecasis Regional Police Force along with Mounties.
