Rifle-discharge suspect misses court date

A mentally unwell Fredericton man accused of firing a rifle at a man in Geary last year with intent of wounding him was a no-show in court Thursday, leading to an arrest warrant being issued.
Darrell Richard Barnes, 51, of Brunswick Street, appeared in Fredericton provincial court Nov. 28, scheduled to elect mode of trial and enter pleas on serious charges that have been outstanding for more than a year.
He’s accused of discharging a firearm at Dustin Madden in Geary with intent to wound him or endanger his life; pointing a firearm at Madden; possessing a rifle without a licence; and possessing stolen social insurance and Visa cards, all on Oct. 3, 2023, in Geary.
Barnes also faces a count of breaching a release order by failing to attend court Nov. 23, 2023.
