RCMP investigates double homicide in Chipman
Mounties responded to report of vehicle on fire Monday morning, discovered two bodies
Two bodies were found in a burning SUV in Chipman on Monday morning, and the RCMP’s major crime unit is investigating the case as a double homicide, the Mounties said Wednesday.
“On Nov. 25, 2024, at approximately 8 a.m., members of the Chipman RCMP detachment responded to a report of a vehicle on fire with two people inside, off Midland Road in Chipman,” the RCMP said in a news release issued Wednesday morning.
“When police arrived at the scene, they located the bodies of two individuals inside a white Chevrolet Equinox that had been consumed by fire.”
Major crime unit detectives are treating both deaths as homicides, it said.
“Investigators are still working to positively identify the two victims given the nature of the way they were found,” New Brunswick RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Hans Ouellette told the Fredericton Independent on Wednesday morning.
He said the force will provide further information to the public when appropriate.
The release made no mention of suspects or arrests, and the RCMP issued a call for tips from the public that can aid with the ongoing investigation.
