Psych exam ordered for teen murder suspect
Bail hearing for underage homicide defendant delayed to determine fitness to stand trial
A 17-year-old boy accused of killing a man last month outside of Fredericton is headed to a secure psychiatric facility to see if he’s fit to stand trial and to instruct defence counsel.
The Nasonworth teenager - whose identity is protected as per the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act - is accused of second-degree murder in the May 13 death of a 34-year-old man in that community just south of Fredericton.
As the relationship, if any, between the victim of the sudden death and the accused isn’t yet known, the Fredericton Independent isn’t naming the deceased in case it might point to the teenager’s identity.

The boy had been scheduled for a bail hearing May 27, but that proceeding was delayed after he asked to be assigned new counsel.
