Province to run Alert Ready test Nov. 19
New Brunswickers on notice that emergency system will push message Wednesday
People in New Brunswick will see their smartphones and other telecommunications devices light and chirp with a message from the Alert Ready system, but they needn’t be alarmed, as it’ll just be a test.
The provincial Department of Justice and Public Safety issued a news release recently to announce a test of Alert Ready, the national public alerting system, set for 10:55 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19.

The Alert Ready system was developed to convey critical and potentially life-saving public advisories in emergencies in specific areas.
“The test will take place on television, radio and wireless devices,” the release said.
“Following an audible alarm, the following information will be presented by television on a red background or broadcast by radio in a bilingual message.”
That message will state that the alert is just part of a test of the system.
New Brunswickers’ smartphones and other wireless devices will sound alarms and vibrate as part of the test, the release said.
Emergency-management officials with federal, provincial and territorial governments, Environment and Climate Change Canada personnel and the broadcast industry developed Alert Ready to bolster emergency preparedness and crisis responses, the release said.
