Province seeks suggestions for top honour
Nominations open for Order of New Brunswick, provincial government announced Friday
The government is looking for its citizens to name names - but in a way that celebrates laudable contributions to life in New Brunswick.
The province announced Friday that nominations are now open for the Order of New Brunswick, the highest honour it can bestow on those who live or have lived here.
“The people of this province are what make it so special for all of us,” New Brunswick Lt.-Gov. Louise Imbeault said in a news release Friday.
“We are grateful to have such dedicated leaders who strengthen our communities through their actions and help make New Brunswick a better place. I invite everyone to help recognize the outstanding achievements of those leaders in our communities by nominating them for the Order of New Brunswick.”
Any Canadian citizen who’s a long-term resident of the province or had been previous can be nominated, the release said.
Nominations close on April 1.
Those selected to receive the Order of New Brunswick will be formally recognized during a ceremony at Government House in Fredericton this fall.
“The Order of New Brunswick is our province’s highest honour, recognizing people whose leadership strengthens our communities and makes life better for others,” Premier Susan Holt said in the release.
“I encourage New Brunswickers to think about the people who lift others up, bring neighbours together, and help build caring, resilient communities, and to nominate them for this honour.”
The Order of New Brunswick was established in 2000 to recognize New Brunswickers who have made significant contributions to the province’s economic, cultural or social well-being, and to date, more than 200 New Brunswickers have been recognized.
Information on the honour and how to submit a nomination can be found online here.
