PGA Tour Americas returns to Mactaquac
Pro golf event to be back for second year in 2025 from June 30 to July 5, says province
It appears the capital region made some strong links with a professional golf tour in 2024, because it’s slated to return to the Mactaquac Provincial Park course next summer.
The provincial Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture announced Friday that the Explore NB Open will be held for the second time at the golf course just outside Fredericton in the summer of 2025.
The pro-golf event debuted in July this year as part of the PGA Tour Americas, which is a spinoff of the Professional Golfers' Association Tour and was the result of the recent amalgamation of two international golf tours: PGA Tour Latinoamerica and PGA Tour Canada.
The 2024 Explore NB Open brought thousands of people to the capital region, and in a news release, Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Isabelle Thériault said the provincial government expects more of the same in 2025.
“This tournament attracts top-tier golfers from around the world and brings significant economic benefits to our province,” she said.
Golf New Brunswick executive director Brianna McQuillan said the pro tour is one way the organization is working to grow the game in the province and generate more interest in it in a new generation of enthusiasts.
“This year, we were amazed by how golf enthusiasts and communities across New Brunswick embraced the event,” she said in the release.
Stacey Russell, manager of Fredericton Capital Region Tourism, said the municipal agency is looking to help with the continued development of the new sporting event.
“This year was a huge success and we cannot wait to grow the event over the next four years,” Russell said in the release.
“The event helps position Mactaquac as a premier golf destination in Atlantic Canada.”
Both the province and the City of Fredericton invested tens of thousands in the inaugural event, and it’s expected those levels of government will continue with that for sponsorships and promotional efforts.
The second annual Explore NB Open is scheduled for June 30 to July 6, 2025, at the Mactaquac Provincial Park Golf Course.
Tickets for next summer’s event aren’t available yet, but once they are, they’ll be available on the official Explore NB Open website, along with other details.

Now they need to work on getting some sort of LPGA event here in the province.
