I think it is just a matter of priorities. Any company has to make money or they go out of business. They could, if they choose to, hire a lesser qualified person but they would have to take a loss because of it, right?
Possibly lesser qualified does not equal taking a loss a hiring a worse employee. Good hiring practices digs into who the person is to see if they are a fit anyway.
I have heard that diversity, equity and inclusivity is not such a great thing.
If you feel under-represented groups getting a fair shot in the system isn't good, then I can see why you might think that.
