A Nova Scotia man was sentenced Tuesday to probation and community service for an assault in Fredericton’s bar district last year, but while the victim later died, no injury was attributed to the offender’s lone kick.

Tyler Totten, 20, of Lower Truro, N.S., appeared in Fredericton provincial court Tuesday for a sentencing hearing on a count of summary assault.

He was originally one of four people charged with manslaughter in the death of André Bourgeois, 41, of Grande-Digue, whom police reported was the victim of an assault in the Tannery in downtown Fredericton on Sept. 22, 2024.

Bourgeois died five days later.
