Officers with Fredericton Police Force, Mounties testify about how they handled sexual-assault file for Brandon Aaron Ladds, 33, of Maugerville, and loss of witness statements
The Fredericton Police Force and the Oromocto RCMP appeared to be pointing fingers at one another as a court searched for an explanation for which one dropped the ball in a sexual-assault case.
Defence counsel for Brandon Aaron Ladds, 33, of Portobello Drive in Maugerville, filed an application in Fredericton provincial court last month seeking to stay charges against the defendant due to undisclosed and lost evidence.
Ladds is accused of sexually assaulting a girl, touching her for a sexual purpose with his penis, inviting the minor to touch his penis, touching her with his penis while in a position of trust and/or authority over her, and inviting the child to touch his penis while in a position of trust and/or authority, all between June 1, 2020, and May 31, 2021, in Maugerville.
The girl’s identity is protected by a court-ordered publication ban.
