A drug dealer implored a judge Friday to sentence him to a community-based sentence, noting that a previous prison stint made him more of a criminal, but the court said that wasn’t an option.

He’d originally elected to be tried in provincial court and pleaded not guilty to possession of cocaine and methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a stolen 2005 Jeep Liberty and possession of the proceeds of crime in Fredericton on Feb. 6, 2025.

He had been scheduled to stand trial next month on those charges, but during an earlier court appearance, he changed his pleas to guilty.
