No adult sentences sought in manslaughter case
Three male teenagers accused of causing death of André Bourgeois, 41, of Grande-Digue, in Sept. 2024 as result of alleged violent incident in Tannery area in downtown Fredericton
Three youths charged with manslaughter in the death of a Grande–Digue man a year ago won’t be sentenced as adults should they be convicted.
Three male teenagers - two from the Fredericton area and one from the Woodstock region - stand accused of manslaughter in the September 2024 death of André Bourgeois, 41, of Grande-Digue, as a result of physical violence that unfolded in the Tannery, a courtyard area outside Fredericton’s bar district.

The trio - who were between the ages of 16 and 17 at the time of the incident, and therefore can’t be identified, as per the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act - appeared before Court of King’s Bench Justice Thomas Christie at the Burton Courthouse on Monday for motions day, to schedule their jury trial.
While the defendants were under the age of 18 at the time of the alleged offence, manslaughter is one of the few charges under which youths can elect to be tried in superior court rather than remaining in youth court, and the three opted for a judge and jury trial in the Court of King’s Bench.
