The New Brunswick’s internet child exploitation unit, which delves into online offences involving underage victims, has shifted one way it presents itself in official communiques, and the reason lies south of the border.

The New Brunswick RCMP says it’s temporarily stopped using the ICE acronym for its internet child exploitation unit to avoid online confusion with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. (Photo: Submitted)

The internet child exploitation unit had embraced its acronym in past news releases about its work to investigate online sex crimes targeting or involving minors, to identify suspects and to prosecute them.

But as has been wholly evident in international news as of late, the U.S. Immigration Customs and Enforcement agency is also known by the ICE acronym.
