A Bilijk (Kingsclear) First Nation man accused of 16 counts of attempted murder stemming from shots fired during a standoff with police this spring is hoping to be released from custody on conditions.

Michael Christopher Sabattis, 34, of Tomahawk Street, has been in custody since he was arrested April 15 following a standoff with RCMP officers at a Bilijk First Nation home that same day.

The RCMP reported its officers were fired upon during the incident, and Sabattis was subsequently charged with 15 counts of attempted murder of officers; 15 counts of discharging a firearm with the intent to wound, maim or otherwise endanger them; one count of aggravated assault on Brian Sabattis by wounding him or endangering his life; assault on Tammy Sabattis; and threats to RCMP officers to cause them death and/or bodily harm.
