Lincoln man found not criminally responsible
Robert Mason Legge, 68, was suffering from mental disorder that prevented from appreciating nature of his actions when he burned nurse at hospital with flaming flyers
When Robert Mason Legge lit a handful of newspaper flyers on fire at Fredericton’s main hospital and burned a nurse with them, he was unable to form the requisite criminal intent, a court heard Thursday.
Legge, 68, of Prestige Lane in Lincoln, appeared before Fredericton provincial court Judge Natalie LeBlanc on Thursday for the resumption of a hearing on the issue of his mental state when he committed offences late last year.
He was charged with attempting to cause damage by fire to the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital and assaulting April Knowles using a weapon - namely, fire - both on Dec. 12.
Legge had sought a psychiatric assessment to determine if he might be exempt from criminal responsibility due to a mental disorder at the time of those events.
