A Fredericton lawyer facing disciplinary action from the law society, lawsuits and police investigations for alleged misconduct has now been found in contempt for disregarding court orders.

Stephen James Hill appeared before Court of King’s Bench Justice Richard Petrie at the Burton Courthouse on Monday for a motion brought by counsel for Chelsea Pasch.

Pasch, who’d been a client of Hill’s when he was practising law, had secured a statutory judgment against him early in 2025 stemming from an overbilling for services rendered.

Hill - who previously practised law as part of the firms of Cox and Palmer, and then Elliott McCrea Hill - was suspended from legal practice by the Law Society of New Brunswick in February.
