Michael Christopher Sabattis, 34, of Bilijk First Nation, also has new defence counsel
A Bilijk (Kingsclear) First Nation man will stand trial in the spring of 2027 on multiple counts of attempted murder of Mounties, stemming from a standoff in the indigenous community in April.
Michael Christopher Sabattis, 34, of Tomahawk Street, appeared in person and in custody before Court of King’s Bench Justice Terrence Morrison at the Burton Courthouse on Monday for motions day to schedule his trial.
He’d previously elected to be tried in the Court of King’s Bench by a judge and jury on 15 counts of attempted murder of various RCMP officers; 15 counts of discharging a firearm with the intent to wound, maim or otherwise endanger those Mounties; one count of aggravated assault on Brian Sabattis by wounding him or endangering his life; assaulting Tammy Sabattis; and uttering threats to RCMP officers to cause them death and/or bodily harm.
