The province’s top court has rejected a Fredericton man’s assertion a consecutive term of incarceration for violating his parole conditions last year was unfair and unfit.

Vincent John Ryan Currie, 43, had been serving a federal prison term for robbery and weapons crimes when he was granted conditional release from incarceration last year, only for a Canada-wide warrant to be issued for arrest for alleged violations of his conditions.

He was arrested after a standoff with police that shut down a neighbourhood on Fredericton’s north side July 4, 2024,

Currie was charged with being unlawfully at large and eventually sentenced to an additional three months of incarceration.

However, he subsequently filed a handwritten notice of appeal with the New Brunswick Court of Appeal, seeking a reduced sentence.
