A federal inmate trial on firearms and threat charges didn’t proceed as planned Friday for a couple of reasons: because the Crown and defence reached a deal, and because barricaded himself in his prison cell.

Codi Timothy Martin, 33, of no fixed address, was scheduled to stand trial in Fredericton provincial court Friday on Oct. 21, 2024, charges of pointing a firearm at Kierra Godsoe, uttering threats to cause her death and/or bodily harm, possessing a 9-mm handgun without a licence and violating the a court-ordered firearms prohibition, all alleged to have occurred in Fredericton.

However, Martin wasn’t in the Justice Building for his scheduled trial Friday because he couldn’t be transported from the Atlantic Institution in Renous, where he’s serving a federal-prison sentence.
