Injurious impaired driver jailed for 2022 crash
Shawna Eveleen Decoste, 35, of no fixed address, got behind wheel right after doing meth
A woman high on meth who crossed two lanes of traffic and crashed head-on into another motorists three years ago saw her request for a community-based sentence denied during a recent sentencing hearing.
Shawna Eveleen Decoste, 35, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty in December 2024 to a Sept. 20, 2022, count of driving while impaired by a drug and causing bodily harm to Carter Bailey.
She was supposed to be sentenced in March but didn’t show up for her sentencing hearing. The offender was subsequently arrested on a warrant in July and held pending sentencing, which was rescheduled for the fall.
The prosecution sought a provincial-jail term of two years less a day, while the defence recommended a conditional sentence to be served in the community subject to strict conditions.
