A Fredericton man facing sexual-abuse charges who’d previously opted for a superior-court trial is now seeking to have the case unfold in provincial court.

A 70-year-old man appeared at the Burton Courthouse on Monday for motions day to schedule his Court of King’s Bench judge-alone trial on serious charges.

They allege he had sexual intercourse with a minor knowing that child was his grandchild, with sexually assaulting that same complainant and another minor, touching both of them for a sexual purpose, inviting them to touch him sexually, touching them sexually while in a position of trust and/or authority over them and making sexually explicit material available to them, all in Fredericton between Jan. 1, 2020, and Sept. 1, 2023.
