Impaired charge expected in fatal crash
Aug. 19 collision claimed life of 53-year-old motorcyclist; Waasis woman arrested Monday
A Waasis woman is expected to appear in court in the province to answer to an allegation she was impaired at the wheel when her vehicle collided with a motorcycle this summer, killing a man.
The Oromocto detachment of the RCMP issued a news release Tuesday morning, announcing that officers had arrested a 63-year-old woman from Waasis on Monday on suspicion that she was operating a motor vehicle while impaired this summer when she was involved in a fatal accident.
The charge arose as a result of a collision between a car, allegedly driven by the woman, and a motorcycle, on Nevers Road in Waasis just before 7 p.m. Aug. 19.
“The collision is believed to have occurred when the driver of a vehicle, travelling northbound, was turning left into a driveway and was stuck by a motorcycle travelling southbound,” the RCMP reported in a news release this summer.
“The [53-year-old] driver of the motorcycle died at the scene as a result of his injuries.”
The woman in the car didn’t sustain injuries, it said.
After her arrest Monday, the RCMP reported, the woman was released on a promise to appear in court in Fredericton on April 7.
