‘I fought, I bite,’ says victim
Destiny Paul speaks out on social media about early-morning attack in her northside home Friday, says she wants other women in Fredericton to be on alert for unknown perpetrator
Destiny Paul says she awoke Friday morning to every woman’s nightmare: a stranger in her home and violence directed at her.
The 28-year-old Fredericton woman posted on Facebook this weekend about a terrifying and harrowing incident in her home Friday morning.

It’s the same incident about which the Fredericton Police Force issued a news release Friday night about a break, enter and assault early that same morning.
“On Jan. 16, 2026, at approximately 6:45 a.m., members of the Fredericton Police Force patrol division responded to a report of a break and enter involving an assault on an adult female on Fredericton’s north side,” the release said.
“No arrest has been made at this time, and the file remains actively under investigation.”
Paul shed some more light on the incident in her post this weekend, noting she wanted other women in the capital to be aware of the danger that’s still lurking somewhere in the city.
“Someone broke into my house. He hid and waited for me to wake up,” she wrote on Facebook.
“Then he attacked me. I begged him at first because that’s what you do when you’re trying to stay alive.”
She wrote she shifted tactics at that moment.
“I fought. I bite, scratched and dragged that fucker out of my house by his hair because he doesn’t get to to ‘win,’” she said.
“I’m alive and OK because I refused to let him take anything else from me.”
Paul said she decided to post publicly about her ordeal to get the word out to other women on Fredericton’s north side to make them aware that the suspect is still at large and could do something similar to someone else.
“Lock your doors. Be alert,” she wrote.
“If you’ve survived something like this, don’t let anyone tell you how you should have reacted. Survival isn’t pretty. It’s violent. It’s instinct. And it’s fucking brave.”
The city police force also warned the public to be aware of their surroundings, to ensure their doors and windows are locked, and to report any suspicious activity.
It said the suspect is described as a Caucasian male, about 5’10” tall with long, thin hair.

When contacted by the Fredericton Independent, Paul declined an interview, but she consented to the publication of the details from her Facebook post and photos of her injuries.
As for Paul, her post also included a message for her assailant.
“If the psychopath manages to read this post, I hope you like your bald spot and mangled fingers,” she wrote.
