Heat warnings issued for New Brunswick
High temperatures, humidity set to create concerning conditions beginning Tuesday and continuing into Thursday, warns Environment and Climate Change Canada’s weather service
Hot and humid conditions expected later this week have prompted the federal weather service to issue heat warnings for just about all regions of New Brunswick.
Environment and Climate Change Canada issued heat warnings for just almost every area of the province - including Fredericton and surrounding communities - at about 4:30 a.m. Monday.
“A period of very hot and humid weather is expected… Tuesday through Thursday,” the advisory stated..
“Hot conditions could possibly continue into Friday, especially over central and southwestern areas of the province.”

For example, in the capital region, the maximum temperature expected Tuesday is 30 C, with a humidex of 35 C. Wednesday could reach 30-33 C with the humidex soaring to 40 C, and the weather service is calling for the same Thursday.
“Extreme heat can affect everyone’s health,” the alert said.
“Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration.”
During this predicted heat wave, people are advised to be on alert for early signs of heat illness, such as fatigue, thirst and headache. Another measure people should take is to get to a cooler space as soon as they start to feel unwell, such as a shaded or air-conditioned space.
Outdoor workers are advised to take breaks regularly in cooler spaces as well.
“Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion,” the Environment and Climate Change Canada warning said.
