One of the five homicide suspects whose charges were stayed last summer due to a Fredericton Police Force gaffe died this week in Saint John, and a lawyer suggested it could be linked to his scuttled case.

Travis James Snowsell, 29, of Fredericton, died suddenly at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Sunday, according to his obituary, and a court heard Friday that his death may be suspicious in nature.

Snowsell was charged jointly with Joshua John McIsaac, 36, formerly of Penniac, with second-degree murder in the December 2021 shooting death of Corey Markey, 41, on Fredericton’s north side.

However, that joint charge was stayed last summer, with the Crown citing an “insurmountable evidentiary issue” arising from an error on the part of the Fredericton Police Force.
