Fraud suspect hasn’t retained counsel
Brent Hayward Stewart, 49, of Doaktown - who’s accused of bilking used-car customers of cash, vehicles - previously told court he was represented by defence lawyer Daniel Jardine
A Doaktown man who previously denied 26 counts of fraud stemming from his job as a used-car salesman doesn’t have a defence lawyer, contrary to what he’d told court earlier.
Brent Hayward Stewart, 49, of Hazelton Road, appeared in Fredericton provincial court Thursday, seeking to set dates for a preliminary inquiry.
He’d previously elected to be tried in the Court of King’s Bench by judge alone, without a jury, on 26 indictable counts of fraud and one of theft.
The allegations stem from his time as a salesman for DMR Auto Sales in Pepper Creek on Fredericton’s north side between 2020 and 2021.
