FHS student arrested after weapons call
Fredericton Police Force says officers responded to uptown high school Thursday afternoon; 14-year-old boy released on conditions with promise to appear in court later
A high-school student was arrested Thursday afternoon following a police response to an uptown school for what the Fredericton Police Force described as “a weapons call.”
The city police force issued a short statement on social media Thursday afternoon about an incident at Fredericton High School on Priestman Street, and police spokesperson Sonya Gilks provided additional details that same evening.
The weapons call came in at 2:25 p.m., she wrote in an email, and seven officers were dispatched to the scene, with the first arriving at 2:27 p.m., the rest following soon thereafter.
“Upon arrival, the officers successfully apprehended a 14-year-old male at 14h35,” Gilks said.
There was no threat to public safety following the youth’s arrest, the police force reported on Facebook.
The boy is expected to face charges of possessing a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public peace and carrying a concealed weapon, the spokeswoman said.
“The youth was released on conditions and will appear in youth court at a later date,” Gilks wrote.
“We’d like to express our gratitude to the school staff for their quick and co-operative actions, which greatly assisted police in their response.”
Officers remained at the high school as part of its continuing investigation Thursday afternoon, the Facebook post said.
