Embattled lawyer under police investigation
Law Society of New Brunswick suspended Stephen James Hill in February after receiving multiple client complaints, and city police force confirms it has active fraud files on him
The legal troubles for a Fredericton lawyer under suspension due to numerous allegations of misconduct continue to mount, as the city police force confirmed this week it has two open files on him.
Stephen James Hill, previously practised law in the capital as part of the law firm of Elliott McCrea Hill, was suspended by the Law Society of New Brunswick in February as a result of several complaints filed with the organization.

His former law partners also filed suit against him this spring, alleging he defrauded the firm and availed himself of funds from the business’s accounts.
Furthermore, there’s outstanding litigation from 2022 alleging he cost entrepreneur Brian Johnson and his Kingswood companies in Hanwell millions of dollars due to his alleged mishandling and manipulations of the project to construct the Radisson Kingswood Hotel & Suites development on the Kingswood property.
