Cops seek tips on graveyard assault
Victim in Oct. 2024 attack continues to feel effects of injuries, says Fredericton Police Force
Police are turning to the public for assistance with an investigation into a violent attack in the downtown area more than a year ago in the hopes that someone might have information or relevant video.
The Fredericton Police Force issued a news release Monday afternoon about an assault that occurred Oct. 19, 2024, at about 9:30 p.m. near 496 George St., the site of the Old Burial Ground in the capital’s downtown core.
“The unknown male is described as being on a bicycle, wearing a red sweater and carrying a backpack,” the release said.
“He approached a man and threw a hexagon-shaped object, believed to be the base of a traffic pylon, striking him in the face. The victim sustained injuries that continue to affect him.”
The force said the call for information from the public comes in the wake of new developments in the file, though it didn’t indicate what those might be.
The officers investigating the incident are seeking new information and any video footage that might related to the incident, the release said, noting that George Street residents or businesses, or those nearby, who might still have doorbell-camera, CCTV footage or other security images from that date and time are asked to contact the police force.
